We start our Bali enduro ride in Ubud and ride through some amazing rice fields heading north into rainforests hugging the base of the Batur Volcano.

We had encountered several Java Bike clubs exploring the hills and forests. We had started in the Banten mountains, been to the south coast and then into the West Java rice fields. On the 3rd day we reached a large forest area south of Cipatat. The jungle tracks were full of thick mud due to recent heavy rainfall.

It is an amazing enduro playground. Steeps slopes, hill climbs, soft black lava sand and hard bumpy sections. As a result this gives the riders a diverse area to either hone their skills or just let rip. Big smiles everywhere behind sand splattered, steaming goggle.

Adventure Riders Indonesia are kicking off the 2019 season with a two day Enduro Dirt Bike trip in Bali. Kadex Ramayadi is leading the dirt bike group through rice terraces to Mount Batur with its black lava sand before hitting the north shores near Tulamben.

Allan on his Kawasaki klx250 had a short wait at the Sape ferry terminal before boarding the ferry. It would cross the Komodo National Park on its way to Labuan Bajo in Flores. Allan met up with Antonio from Portugal. He was half way around the world on his BMW R850GS. The Adventure riders had lots to discuss and were joined by an Icelandic backpacker and a local reggae band playing tunes while sailing through the Komodo islands.

We didn't come to Sumbawa only to see Mount Tambora, but it was something we all looked forward to. Mount Tambora is a stratovolcano. It erupted in 1815 in the biggest recorded eruption in history, as a result global temperatures fell. It was huge, a 45km tall column is estimated. The mount stood at 4000 meters before the eruption, it now peaks at 2850 meters.

We soon found ourselves back on our dirt bikes as we were climbing up towards Mount Rinjani. It was visible from a distance but it's difficult to appreciate how big it is when you are driving so close to the base of it. We would later see it from across the Alas Strait in Sumbawa.

The idea for an Asian Dirt Bike Tour has it's beginnings in Africa. Since riding a dirt bike from Nairobi to Mozambique Allan had been looking for another big dual sport adventure. In Naughty Nuri's warung in Ubud, after a handful of kick ass margaritas, Allan discussed his plans for some organised motorcycle tours with Adam. The idea for Adventure Riders Indonesia was born.
